For the past few years, I’ve been on a journey towards greater self-sufficiency. As part of this, I’ve made it a priority to take control not just of the foods I eat, but also the products I use on my skin. One of the best parts of this lifestyle is making my own soap and shampoo bars .  I also love the fact that I can whip up my own lotions, salves, and creams for a fraction of the cost of store-bought products. Plus, I know exactly what ingredients go into everything I make, which gives me peace of mind.

In this post, I’m sharing one of my favorite DIY recipes for a simple lavender chamomile lotion that I hope you’ll enjoy as much as I do. Growing my own herbs to use in these creations adds another layer of satisfaction to the process, and there’s just something special about knowing every step of what goes into the products I use daily. I hope you’ll give it a try!

Lavender Chamomile Lotion

Lavender chamomile lotion is a soothing and nourishing skincare product that brings together the calming properties of lavender with the gentle, healing qualities of chamomile. By infusing these herbs directly into oils, we can harness even more of their natural benefits. This DIY recipe shows you how to make a luxurious lotion using lavender and chamomile-infused oils combined with other skin-loving ingredients like rose water and beeswax. Let’s break down the ingredients and explore why each one is perfect for your homemade skincare routine.

Ingredient Overview

1. Beeswax – Beeswax is the base of this lavender chamomile lotion, giving it the right texture and thickness. It’s a natural emulsifier that helps blend oil and water-based components, making it a crucial part of any lotion recipe. Beeswax forms a protective barrier over the skin, locking in moisture while still allowing the skin to breathe. It also has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, making it suitable for all skin types, especially dry and sensitive skin.

2. Lavender and Chamomile-Infused Sweet Almond Oil – The star of this lotion is the lavender and chamomile-infused sweet almond oil. By infusing sweet almond oil with these herbs, we draw out their beneficial properties, creating a potent base for the lotion. Sweet almond oil is known for being lightweight and easily absorbed by the skin, making it perfect for hydrating without leaving a greasy feel. Infusing lavender into the oil adds extra soothing and anti-inflammatory benefits, while chamomile provides additional calming and healing properties. To make the infused oil at home, simply follow this guide.

3. Rose Water – Rose water is the hydrating element in this lavender chamomile lotion, providing a refreshing boost of moisture to the skin. It helps balance the skin’s pH levels and has mild astringent properties that tighten pores and improve overall complexion. Its anti-inflammatory qualities reduce redness and irritation, while the subtle rose scent adds a luxurious touch to the lotion.

4. Vitamin E (10 drops) – Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that protects the skin from environmental damage, such as pollution and UV rays. It also acts as a natural preservative, extending the shelf life of the lotion. When used in skincare products like lavender chamomile lotion, it helps reduce the appearance of scars, fine lines, and wrinkles, making it an excellent addition for overall skin health.

5. Lavender Essential Oil (5 drops)

Lavender essential oil is one of the star ingredients in this lavender chamomile lotion recipe. Known for its calming and anti-inflammatory properties, lavender essential oil not only soothes the skin but also promotes relaxation and better sleep when applied before bedtime. Its antiseptic properties make it effective for acne-prone skin, as it helps prevent bacteria build-up.

6. Chamomile Essential Oil (5 drops) – Chamomile essential oil is another crucial ingredient in this lavender chamomile lotion. With its powerful anti-inflammatory and calming effects, it helps soothe sensitive skin and reduce redness or irritation. Chamomile’s gentle nature makes it ideal for all skin types, and when combined with lavender, it creates a perfect synergy, enhancing the lotion’s soothing and therapeutic effects.
