This baking mix is going to change your world!
My years of camping have taught me a lot, from starting an excellent campfire, to identifying edible plants in the wild, to camp cooking.
One thing I learned was an excellent recipe for an all-purpose baking mix that can be made ahead of time and later used as a base for many different recipes. Today, I don’t camp so much, but I still use this recipe at home because of its versatility and affordability. It’s just like Bisquick, but cheaper!
For a real time saver, make this all-purpose baking mix ahead of time, store it in the freezer, and use it when you need it.
Oh, and did I mention that it requires just six ingredients that I’d be willing to bet that you have on hand in your pantry.
Because this recipe calls for such simple ingredients, you could have some of this mix whipped up in no time. Â
Now, I know that this kind of mix is typically thought of as pancake mix, but the truth is that you can use it for so much more. In fact, there are so many other recipes that you can use it in as well.
You can make biscuits, coat fried chicken – one of my personal favorite uses – and so much more. The whole point of having this on hand is for convenience!
RECIPES USING ALL-PURPOSE BAKING MIX
You don’t have to spend a lot of money or devote a lot of time to making it, and it comes in handy whenever you need a quick shortcut to make your life a little easier.
Just be sure to keep your mix in the freezer.
DIY All Purpose Baking Mix - Better than Bisquick©

- Large airtight storage container
Ingredients
- 8 Cups All Purpose Flour
- 3 Cups Nonfat Dry Milk
- 5 Tbsp Sugar
- 5 Tbsp Baking Powder
- 1 Tbsp Salt
- 2 Cups Shortening
Instructions
- Blend ingredients together well with two knives of any sort or a pastry blender until it's the consistency of cornmeal.
- Store in the freezer.
