Ingredients

  • 5 tablespoons chili powder
  • 3 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon + 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon + 2 teaspoons fine sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon + 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • teaspoons garlic powder
  • teaspoons onion powder
  • teaspoons dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and stir to blend evenly.
  • Transfer to a clean, dry glass jar using a funnel.
  • Seal tightly, label with the date, and store in a cool, dark pantry for up to 6 months.
  • To use: add 2–3 tablespoons to 1 pound of browned ground meat with ⅓ cup water. Simmer 5 minutes.

Notes

  • Shake jar before each use. Adjust red pepper flakes to your heat preference. For a smokier blend, use double the smoked paprika.
  • To thicken taco meat, add 1 teaspoon of cornstarch per pound of meat along with the seasoning and water. Stir well and simmer until the sauce reaches your desired consistency.
